The Denver Post: A 24 year old man in Oklahoma City was attacked for his bologna and cheese sanwich. When he was about to add mayonnaise, the attacker came up and punched him in the mouth, grabbed the sandwich, and left. Lost blood and a swollen lip later, the man was told by the police that the sandwich was only worth 76 cents. What is happening to the world?! Beating someone up for a sandwich?! It's insane!
The Denver Post: Two great-grandmothers, ages 86 and 69, became state bowling champions! With their combined handicap of 496 pins, they won by 32 pins with a total score of 1,607! I thought I'd pick this article because I just watched an episode of Full House the other day and on "Wake Up San Francisco", they interviewed an old lady that had recently bunji jumped off a bridge. I think it's awesome that those two women still bowl at their ages, you hardly ever hear of that kind of thing around here. Never let someone tell you you're not at the right age to do something :)
The Kansas City Star: A 31 year old man was charged with one count of child abuse as a result of abusing a 10 month old baby who is now in critical condition. I don't understand how anyone could do this to someone, especially a baby. It's so sad!

The New York Times: A 6th grade girl who went to school in Brooklyn died from swine flu this week and health experts are saying a big reason could be from her being overweight. I don't see how they could come up with that since some of the other new deaths have been children under 2 years old. I think the swine flu is an illness that can take over just about anybody. No one's able to fight it off because it's so strong. I don't think it has much to do with your weight.
The Kansas City Star: Health inspections have been done in restaurants throughout the area and some places had dried food on their utensils, moldy strawberries, food with no expiration date, etc. I think they need to get inspected more often to prevent businesses from getting taken out and promote better health for customers.
The Kansas City Star: The cigarette, the single thing that has caused more than 400,000 deaths every year has been argued over for years. Congress sent Obama a bill to restrict cigarettes and he is strongly considering doing so. I like this idea because i'm really against smoking. I don't see the point in paying your way into your death bed, but that's everyone's own choice!

The Denver Post: General Mills is no longer allowed to claim that eating Cheerios lowers cholesterol until the FDA tests and approves that it does so. They say the claims mean that the oats are considered a drug. I think people believe jsut about anything even if it's on a cereal box, so they should be careful with what they put on them but at the same time it's kind of obvious that since Cheerios is as healthy as it is, eating a bowl or more a day will change your diet and lower your cholesterol.
The Chicago Tribune: A Chicago police officer was shot in the head early this morning on the south side of the city and passed away this afternoon. With his girlfriend and some family members being involved in the same job, he will truly be missed.
The New York Times: A longtime abortion provider, Dr. Tiller, was shot in the foyer of his church while handing out bulletins. A main suspect has been said to be Scott Roeder, who has suffered from a mental illness many different times in his life. Close friends and relatives say they don't think Scott would be one to take another's life. Dr. Tiller had been attacked before by other abortion opponents, but probably never thought it would come to this. As a pro-life person, i don't approve of any murders so what happened to Dr. Tiller is not right, but neither is stopping a new life from growing.
